Brand
RCA dates back to 1919, but by the time these camcorders were made the name belonged to someone else. GE bought RCA in 1986, and in 1988 the rights to make consumer electronics under the RCA name went to France's Thomson, whose name is on every RCA camcorder manual here. RCA was early to camcorders: in 1985 it, Panasonic and Hitachi started making ones that took a full-size VHS cassette. Over the next 15 years it sold full-size VHS, VHS-C, 8mm and MiniDV models. Two of the manuals here use JVC's own part numbering, which suggests JVC built those cameras, the company that invented VHS-C. Thomson bought the RCA trademark outright in 2003, and Audiovox took over the RCA audio and video business in 2007.
