RCA CC6383
The CC6383 is RCA's VHS-C camcorder from 2000, the step-up version of the CC6373 in the same manual. It adds a 3-inch color LCD to the color eyepiece, so you can film at arm's length or show people a clip on the spot. The 16x zoom runs from 3.9 to 62.4 mm, Steady Pix electronic stabilization takes the edge off handheld shots, and SLP speed stretches a tape when you need it. The RCA name belonged to Thomson by then, but the manual's part number follows JVC's own numbering scheme, so this one was likely made by JVC, the company that invented VHS-C. The same year RCA sold the CC9370, a MiniDV camera with the same lens spec.

Tape check
The tapes, the cables and the power
- Records
- VHS-C with four video heads, at SP speed or the slower SLP speed for longer recordings.
- Plays back
- VHS-C tapes. In a VHS-C adapter cassette they also play on a home VHS deck.
- Getting footage off it
- Analog only. Footage comes out through an A/V cable (RCA lists the VH83) to a TV or a USB capture device, and you capture in real time.
- TV system
- NTSC, made for the US. Its tapes play on an NTSC VHS deck through a VHS-C adapter cassette.
- Battery and power
- RCA's FB1260 nickel-cadmium pack, at 6 volts. Treat an original pack as dead, and ask the seller what charger or adapter comes with it.
- Viewfinder and screen
- A 3-inch color LCD plus a 0.44-inch color eyepiece viewfinder. The CC6373, which shares its manual, is the version without the LCD.
Should come with it
- An FB1260 battery pack
- A charger or AC adapter
- The A/V cable
- A VHS-C adapter cassette, for playing tapes in a VCR
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
What to check
No model-specific faults are documented. An original FB1260 pack is now more than 25 years old, and a camera that only powers on hasn't proved its tape transport works.
- 01Tested with a tape: Ask the seller whether it has recorded and played back a tape, not just powered on. A short video of playback on the LCD is what you want.
- 02Playback picture: Ask for a photo of the LCD playing a tape. A steady picture without heavy snow or lines means the heads are in fair shape.
- 03LCD: Ask for a photo of the LCD showing a bright scene. An even, bright picture with no dark patches or lines is what you want.
- 04Model number: Check the label in the photos reads CC6383, not CC6373. The CC6373 is the same camera without the LCD.
- 05Battery: Check the photos for an FB1260 pack. Treat an old nickel-cadmium pack as dead and price it that way.
- 06Power: Ask what charger or AC adapter comes with it. A listing that shows one saves you hunting for the right 6-volt supply.
- 07Adapter cassette: Check the photos for a VHS-C adapter cassette if you want to play tapes in a VCR. Without one, plan to find one separately.
- 08Lens: Zoom in on the lens in the photos, ideally with light shining in. Clear glass with no haze, fog or web-like fungus is what you want.

Buying guide
Which one to buy
§ Oct 15, 2026The only CC6383 for sale asks $8 plus $38.30 shipping, $46 delivered, with a case and charger as titled, and with one listing there's no market band to read. The title makes no test claim, so ask for a short video of a VHS-C tape playing on the 3-inch LCD, and check the label reads CC6383, since the CC6373 is the same camera without the screen. It takes RCA's 6-volt FB1260 pack, so treat an old one as dead, and you'll need a VHS-C adapter cassette to play its tapes in a home VCR.
